FAQ

Big changes are coming to Yggdrasil in August 2025. As an Yggdrasil owner, you deserve to have priority. That’s why we’re introducing this upgrade program. Pick what you want, give us a $15* refundable deposit, and you've secured your place in line.

At the same time, you shouldn’t be forced into upgrading what’s already one of the best DACs on the planet. You can pass on the FOMO, and enjoy a great free upgrade: a transferrable warranty.

Transferrable Warranty, $0
If you purchased an Yggdrasil from us that is still under warranty, or sent your Yggdrasil in for an upgrade that re-activated your warranty, we’re giving you a transferrable warranty. Feel free to sit back and enjoy one of the best DACs in the world…now with an even better warranty.

Yggdrasil Singular, AKA "Byggy", $2999
Byggy is Yggdrasil, re-invented. Featuring Singular™, the first high-rate, high-bit-depth delta-sigma technology based on our own closed-form math, Nexus™ discrete current-feedback differential output stage, Unison 384™ USB inputs, and Forkbeard™ control system to enable full digital preamp functionality, it’s the first DAC in the world made without any “canned” functions like USB interfaces, D/A converters, or even op-amp gain. It's literally 100% ours.

Byggy is a whole new beast:
  • Based on Yggdrasil+
  • New Singular™ 7/6 (7 bit, 6 MHz) converter with fully discrete, fully differential Nexus™ analog card
  • New USB input card, with (2) Unison 384 inputs
  • Now Forkbeard enabled with 5-band parametric EQ, volume, balance, loudness—a complete digital preamp!
  • New optimized SPDIF input with programmable oscillators
  • New high-capacity DSP card
  • $3499 when generally available

Yggdrasil owners who get on the list here can purchase Byggy for $2999, a $500 discount.

Byggy Upgrade, $1500-2000

Yggy owners can also choose to upgrade their existing Yggdrasil+ or Yggdrasil to Byggy. These are extensive upgrades, changing up to 5 boards, and, in the case of Yggdrasil, the chassis. Both of these upgrades require that your Yggdrasil come back to us, or to an authorized distributor.
  • Upgrade from Yggdrasil to Byggy: $2000
  • Upgrade from Yggdrasil+ to Byggy: $1500
Singular™ Upgrade, $1000

Finally, you can upgrade any Yggdrasil to Singular, whether they are Yggdrasil+ or not. The Singular upgrade includes:
  • New Singular™ 7/6 (7 bit, 6 MHz) converter with fully discrete, fully differential Nexus™ output analog card
  • New ROM for existing DSP card to enable Singular card
Singular upgrades can be installed by an experienced technician or installed by us (if we do it, the labor is free, but you have to pay to ship to us and vice-versa. We also extensively test your Yggy and re-activate your warranty for 2 years.)

To Summarize
  • Buy a Byggy, keep your current Yggy: $2999
  • Upgrade from Yggdrasil to Byggy: $2000 (must come back to us)
  • Upgrade from Yggdrasil+ to Byggy: $1500 (must come back to us)
  • Upgrade either Yggdrasil+ or Yggdrasil to Singular: $1000 (can be done by us or we will ship card to you)

FINE PRINT

You must be an Yggdrasil owner who purchased from us, from an authorized distributor, or who has purchased a significant upgrade through us, to join this Priority Upgrade Program. Let us know your order number and date in the "Comments" field when you place your reservation. When Byggy is available, we'll contact you and finalize your purchase in the order of reservations received. So, if you want to be first, get on the list fast.

*Our ordering system is going to try to charge you tax and shipping on this reservation. Just choose the cheapest shipping option to minimize your cost. Apologies for the confusion. Whatever money we collect from you will be either applied to your order or refunded if you cancel your reservation, whether it is $15 or $26.86

What does Byggy look like?
Like an Yggdrasil+. But with a different rear panel. And very different guts. If you were expecting audiophile jewelry, there are other companies that will add a zero or two to the price for something much fancier.

Wait a sec! A delta-sigma Yggdrasil is the top Yggdrasil now? Why have you forsaken True Multibit?
Yes. And no. Let's break it down:

  1. Yes, a delta-sigma Yggdrasil is now the top Yggdrasil. This is because it sounds the best. It is also because, arguably, this is the most advanced delta-sigma implementation in the world. Our delta-sigma modulator is 100% our own, based on our own closed-form math, and it operates at the insane rate of 6MHz with 7 bit depth. It's a completely bespoke implementation with an FPGA driving individual resistors, which then feed a fully discrete Nexus™ differential analog stage.
  2. We haven't forsaken True Multibit. True Multibit and Multiform have their place. At this moment in time, that place is below Singular. We will continue developing multibit designs, and we'll see where that goes. Competition improves the breed, even when the competition is internal.

What will happen to Yggdrasil MIB, LIM, etc?
We'll continue selling those until we're out of them.

Why is it $15 to reserve my place in line?
Because it's our 15th anniversary this year.

So if I give you $15 you're not gonna allow someone to cut in line?
Correct, if you've bought an Yggdrasil from us, or upgraded an Yggdrasil with us. Also if you've bought an Yggdrasil from a distributor. Hence the name of this program. All Yggdrasil owners get first dibs on this new version of Yggdrasil, like, first.

I'm not an Yggdrasil owner but I'm interested in Byggy. When will it be available?
When all owners on the Priority Upgrade Program have had their order fulfilled. Might be a few months. Might be never. Most likely somewhere in-between.

But I want a Byggy and I'm not an owner and I don't want to wait!
There's always Yggdrasil GS2 in the meantime. Buy now, get on the list, add Singular card when available, save $800 or so on a full Byggy (but you won't get the new USB inputs, DSP card, input card, etc.) Or buy a GS2 and get on the list for a Byggy, you still save $500.
