A New Saga

Redefines Value for Affordable Preamps

August 14, 2024, Corpus Christi, TX. Today, Schiit Audio announced the availability of Saga 2, an all-new, differential, fully discrete, zero feedback, Class A, high-rail-voltage, remote control, relay-potentiometer preamp with headphone output at $279.

“The description sounds pretty much like what you'd expect in a high-end preamp,” said Jason Stoddard, Schiit’s co-founder and head of analog design. “Until you realize it's missing a zero or two off the price tag."

Saga 2 extends the features found on Schiit's previous Saga S and Saga+ preamps, while selling for a lower price. Saga 2 adds balanced outputs, 2 gain settings, and headphone output...at $120 less than the outgoing Saga+.

Despite its low cost, Saga 2 features a full cost-no object design:
  • True differential, fully discrete gain stage
  • Zero feedback, high rail voltage (75V total)
  • Current-sourced, real Class A throughout
  • Two gain settings
  • Pure passive setting
  • 64-step relay attenuator
  • Headphone output
  • Included remote control
"Saga 2 is a great pair with Gjallarhorn, Aegir 2, and Vidar 2," said Jason Stoddard. "It provides two different gain options to accommodate different systems, as well as pure passive mode...and it also has balanced outputs so you can run those amps mono if you want to."

Saga 2 builds on the Equipoise gain stage that was first seen in the Freya+ differential buffer, and was lately used on the Skoll phono preamp. This super-simple gain stage provides exceptional performance for a feedback-free design, and offers extreme headroom with its super-high voltage rails.

An IR remote control is included with Saga 2, as well as an external linear power supply.

Saga 2, like all Schiit products, is designed and built in the USA, with the vast majority of cost going to US companies producing in the USA. For example, its chassis and PC boards are made in California, and everything comes together in our Corpus Christi, Texas facility.

Saga 2 is currently available in black finish only at $279.
